Bellingham retail shop to close after 15 years

Cute But Crazy Socks announced the closure of its retail location at the 1300 block of Cornwall Ave. The final day for the downtown storefront is May 17, 2026.

Owners Urania and Ben Shaklee cited a shift in focus toward Nelson’s Market and ModSocks as the reason for the closure. The owners acquired Nelson’s Market, a 130-year-old corner store and restaurant in the York neighborhood, in 2023.

The business transition includes the following details.

  • 3 current staff members will transition to roles at Nelson’s Market and ModSocks
  • design operations for ModSocks will continue via its website and retail partners
  • closing sale hours are Wednesday through Sunday from about 11am to about 5pm

The retail shop has operated in downtown Bellingham for nearly 15 years.

We are closing our retail doors, but we aren’t saying goodbye. We invite you to find us at Nelson’s Market, where the spirit of community — and some of the same familiar faces you’ve known at the shop for years — will be waiting. See you there!
