According to the Northwest Educational Service District 189 (NWESD), the Port of Bellingham and Career Connect NW co-hosted the 2nd annual Blue Tech by the Bay event on April 28, 2026.
The event was held from at the Fishermen’s Pavilion in the 2600 block of S Harbor Loop, according to the Port.
Companies and organizations who participated and provided activity stations included the following.
- All American Marine
- Bellingham Fire Department
- Brannon Finney and Nathan Thomas
- Drayton Harbor Oyster Co. in partnership with Whatcom Conservation District
- Northline Foods
- Northwest Maritime Center
- United States Coast Guard
- Washington State Ferries
- Western Washington University
Other event hosts included NW Maritime Apprenticeship, NW Center of Excellence in Marine and Manufacturing, Whatcom Working Waterfront Coalition and Whatcom Working Waterfront Foundation.
The event was open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Island and Snohomish counties.
According to the Port, students engaged with maritime industry workers and participated in activities. Students explored maritime career pathways including marine science and resources, marine construction and engineering and vessel operations.
