Port of Bellingham to expand waterfront parking

Port of Bellingham is adding over 100 parking spaces to the downtown waterfront. The planned gravel parking area extends toward Granary Avenue and W Chestnut Street near the Granary Building and Portal Container Village.

An adjacent parking lot contains 100 spaces. The expansion will be available for use by visitors to the pump track and local businesses.

The project went out to bid in February of 2026, and bids received were opened March 12, 2026. The Port has until April 26, 2026, to formally award the contract. Projects of this type can be completed in approximately 30 to 45 days once the contract is formally awarded.

A World Cup “Community Watch Party” is scheduled for June 12, 2026, at the nearby Trackside Beer Garden. It is hoped this project could be completed by then.

Bellingham was selected as 1 of 9 official fan zones by the Seattle FIFA World Cup 26 local organizing committee for the FIFA World Cup 2026. $200,000 has been committed to community grant projects from local hotel-motel lodging tax revenues.
