Press release: Bellingham Police and Bank join forces to keep Bellingham seniors scam-free

BELLINGHAM, WA — Scammers are getting more sophisticated, and local law enforcement and banking experts want Bellingham seniors ready for it.

Local senior living community Cordata Court will host a fraud and scam awareness presentation Thursday, July 23, at 2 p.m., bringing together community leaders to help residents and neighbors spot warning signs.

Jen Andrews, Community Service Officer with the Bellingham Police Department, and Randy Fredlund, Chief Compliance and Security Officer at Peoples Bank, will lead the discussion, sharing real-world examples of common scams and practical steps people can take to guard their finances and personal information.

The presentation is free and open to the Bellingham community, with attendees encouraged to bring questions for both presenters.

“Fraud tactics change every year, and staying informed is one of the best defenses people have,” said Kris Marson, Executive Director of Cordata Court. “We wanted to bring law enforcement and banking experts together so our residents and neighbors get answers straight from the people who see these scams firsthand. Everyone who attends should walk away with tools they can actually use.”
