After being closed for the winter season, the Portal Container Village opens for the 2026 season on Friday, May 1, 2026. The seasonal opening features the addition of a satellite location for Chuckanut Bay Distillery, which will feature a rooftop deck at the waterfront site.
Infrastructure improvements at the village include the installation of a Rivian Adventure Network site featuring 8 high-speed electric vehicle charging stations accessible by all EVs. A new parking lot located across from the Granary Building is currently under construction with a scheduled completion date in June 2026.
Other amenities and businesses operating out of metal shipping containers include the following.

- miniature golfing at Portal Putt
- rotating container shops
- coffees and pastries from Our Kitchen
- Selkie Scoop Ice Cream
- Pizza at Zeeks
- burgers at Rain or Shine Riviera Club
- several food trucks
- Kulshan Trackside
- Bin 13
The Port of Bellingham will host a party on May 8, 2026, from about 7pm to about 10pm at the Central Pier next to the Granary Building. The event coincides with the Downtown Bellingham Partnership’s Spring Wine Walk. The Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition is also completing an annual refresh of the waterfront bike park in preparation for the opening.
