Alpha Technologies announces layoffs due to closure

The Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) reported Wednesday, July 1, 2026, they received a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter from EnerSys for Alpha Technologies Services, Inc. located at 3767 Alpha Way in Bellingham.

According to ESD, 75 workers are expected to be let go beginning August 31, 2026.

The company told ESD the layoffs are due to the closure of the Bellingham facility.

According to the company website, the Bellingham location is one of several around the world and the company operates several different divisions. The company was based out of the Bellingham facilities since it began business in 1975.

In 2018, 100% of operational entities belonging to the Alpha Technologies group of companies was acquired by EnerSys. According to SEC filings, this did not include the physical corporate facilities which were then leased to EnerSys.

Alpha Technologies Services, Inc. is known to be the field services support arm of the Alpha Technologies group of companies.

In January 2024, the company announced 77 were to be laid off due to the closure of the Alpha Technologies Services, Inc. Spokane Valley facility.

According to the letter received by ESD, the layoffs are expected to begin August 31, 2026 and completed by October 15, 2026.

We are writing to inform you that there will be a total closure of Alpha Technologies Services, Inc. Operations unit located at 3765 Alpha Way, in Bellingham, Washington on October 15, 2026. The entire unit will be closed and all employees at the facility will be affected except those who (1) are not employed in the operations unit (which includes the purchasing, planning, shipping, receiving and production departments) and their work location will be another physical or remote work setting; or (2) are an operations unit employee who receives an offer to either transfer to an affiliated company location in Georgia or to perform their job duties in an alternate Washington location. This closure is expected to be permanent.

This closure is the result of and will result in the relocation and/or contracting out of company operations and/or employee positions.
