Construction kickoff launches Lynden hospice project

On July 8, 2026, Christian Health Care Center (CHCC)hosted a construction kickoff event to mark the beginning of work on The Hospice Suites at CHCC, according to an announcement from the organization.

The project will transform underused space within the existing Christian Health Care Center building into a dedicated hospice environment featuring nine private suites, a family gathering space, reflection room, private bathing suite and sanctuary garden.

The event, which took place at the Christian Health Care Center facility, was attended by Lynden Mayor Scott Korthuis, representatives from Exxel Pacific, project designer Carletti Architects, members of the CHCC Board of Trustees and members of the CHCC Foundation Board.

According to CHCC, the project will convert underused space at the facility into 9 private hospice suites. The event included a ceremonial wall signing and a symbolic wall strike by attendees.

The project is being funded in part by the Called to Care fundraising campaign.

CHCC announced in June 2026, a total of $752,000 had been secured toward the $1.5 million cost of developing.

Washington State Department of Health data indicates that approximately 55% of older adults and 23% of younger adults receive hospice care before death. Applied to Whatcom County death records, that translates to roughly 1,000 residents who need hospice services each year.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of CHCC. To celebrate, a Community Picnic will be held on Thursday, July 23, from 2pm to 6pm in front of CHCC at 855 Aaron Drive in Lynden.
